Thought I'd make a topic about this so people can share information on the rules regarding importing items from Japan or elsewhere into your country ^^

If you live in the EU, it is possible you can be charged a combination of Import Duty, VAT and a Handling fee for anything you purchase from Japan or anywhere else outside the EU.

Something a lot of people don't know - when sending packages into the EU, if you declare that the item is a Gift, the only way you can avoid the other person paying any fees is to not mark the item value at all, or mark it as under $40. All items over $40 - regardless if they're marked as a gift between private individuals or not - will be charged VAT and a handling fee.
In the UK, the Royal Mail handling fee for imports at the UK Border is 8 on top of any VAT/customs charges.
